Conducting a Site Inventory


The next step in PLANTING WITH PURPOSE will be conducting a site inventory. The inventory will look at important factors such as your site's micro-climate.

Site Inventory Preparation:

  1. Place a piece of see-through paper or velum over your base map.
  2. Note topography, slopes, soil types, and drainage areas on your site inventory.
  3. Record prevailing seasonal winds, seasonal temperatures, and humidity.
  4. Provide sun and shade patterns in both summer and winter.
  5. Show and special features of and existing vegetation. (screens, windbreaks, etc.)
  6. Use arrows to show flow of vehicular and pedestrian access.
  7. Note views both good and bad.
  8. Use broken lines to show and legal setbacks.
