Carefully positioned trees and shrubs planted around your home is an easy and inexpensive way to improve your energy efficiency and enhance the appearance, interest, and value of your property.  Studies have shown that trees planted near your home can cut heating and cooling costs up to 25%.  According to the U.S. Department of Energy, just three strategically positioned trees can save $100 - $250 in energy costs annually.  Simply shading an outdoor air conditioning, making sure not to impede airflow, can cut up to 10% of your cooling costs.  Using dense trees and shrubs to deflect winter winds can reduce heating needs 20%-40%.  The energy savings can provide a return on your initial investment in as little as eight years.
